This probably comes off as a massive advert for FL Studio, but that's just how I personally feel about the program. They even blatantly propagate the myth that their mixer "sounds better" than any other DAW in a promotional video for 9.5.
I haven't looked at what they've added in Cubase 9.5, but Cubase 9 addressed basically none of the long standing complaints about Cubase 8. Steinberg, on the other hand, really put me off.
They are very engaged with their user base overall through their official forums, and they are continuously pumping out improvements to their software, both feature-wise and under-the-hood performance optimizations.
